  • Conductor: The primary switch to which the uplink cable is connected. It is responsible for providing Layer 3 services.
  • Backup: The secondary switch that takes over the responsibilities of the Conductor in case of a failover.

Creating a Stack

If you are setting up a new site, you can create a new stack by connecting the switches in a ring topology during the initial setup. The switches should be connected on the same layer 2 network, which should be the management network. Here is the procedure:

  1. Connect the Instant On 1960 Series switches in a ring topology.
  2. Follow the instructions provided in the setup process to discover the switches.
  3. Select the stack from the list of discovered devices in the network.
  4. Finish the setup process, and the newly created stack will be displayed in the site inventory.

Alternatively, you can create a new stack using the extend my network setting. This method only works when the switches are connected in a ring topology.

Creating a New Stack After Initial Setup

If you already have an inventory comprising of multiple Aruba Instant On 1960 Series switches, you can create a new stack by following these steps:

  1. Access the inventory page on the Aruba Instant On home page.
  2. Select the standalone Instant On 1960 Series switch on which the stack is to be created.
  3. Under the Actions tab, click on create stack .
  4. Select the Instant On 1960 Series switch you wish to add to the stack.
  5. Set the role of the newly added switch as Backup.
  6. Finish the process, and the newly created stack will be displayed in the site inventory.

It is important to note that out of the four switches in a stack, one should be assigned as the Conductor, another as the Backup, and the remaining two as Member switches. If a stack only has two switches, it will have a Conductor and a Backup, but no Member switch.
